What makes a logo great, the best of its class? Good logos meet all these five (5) criteria:
- Simple – so they are easy to reproduce in many mediums such as websites, social media, business cards, signs and even pens!
- Memorable – so that your prospects will remember your brand when making buying decisions.
- Distinctive – so that your company stands out from your competitors
- Timeless – so that your logo can grow with your brand over a long time period
- Versatile – so that is can work in a very small size, such as for a mobile phone app, and at a very large size, such as a car or truck wrap or a large building sign.

Harp Pediatric Dentistry, a startup pediatric dental office in Florida, USA which treats patients from infants to teenagers. This dentist wanted a logos that conveyed a message of a calm and cozy atmosphere. Their brand personality was youthful and organic.

Best Automotive Logo Designs
La Cross Truck Center, LTC, a heavy truck service repair shop updated their logo identity for a more modern look at 99designs.com and is the winner of best automotive logo designs category this month.
I choose this logo as the best of June 2018 in the automotive category because of the clever way the logo designer incorporated an image of a truck into the company’s name. Also, the strong block letter and metallic look add to the powerful truck brand.
Additionally, note that the designer offered multiple color palettes to demonstrate that the design was so strong that it could be used in one or two colors.
Their logo design contest received almost 200 logo ideas from 38 logo artists!
Brand personality was described as masculine, sophisticated and luxurious.

Best of 99designs June 2018 – Physical Fitness Logos
Flat Tum Mum ( what a great name!) wins the physical fitness logo category prize for best logo. They received almost 1,000 contest submissions by about 100 designers – wow what a great big logo contest.
This simple, iconic design is so artistic and compelling both for its intrinsic beauty but also for its depiction of the products benefit and buyer’s goal – a flat tummy after becoming a new mom.
Great design is versatile, like this logo that can be used as a cut out over a photo in all white, or with one color, the aqua. I especially like the way the designer showed show the logo can be used for buttons on a website with corresponding photos as backgrounds across the bottom of the image to the right.
The company wanted a logo that would speak to women aged 30-40, and communicate a premium brand image. The brand personality is sophisticated, luxurious and organic.
Winner of Best Restaurant Logo
This month I selected two (2), winners because one was a logo update job and the other for a new restaurant logo.
Logo Updated
Forbidden Noodles, updated its logo into this fun and powerful logo at logo contest at 99designs in June 2018. These contest received 195 logo designs ideas from 69 different artists from around the world.
This Asian fusion restaurant focuses on stir fry and ramen noodle dishes. They wanted to give their logo a new modern twist. They liked their current logo but it was lacking. Specifically, they requested logos designed to fit on a horizontal restaurant sign and that would also work for other branding uses such as napkins, bags and business cards.
They indicated that oranges and yellows were their preferred colors, with modern geometric styles. I love the badge emblem styling – it will look great on t-shirts and servers aprons.
New Logo Created
The Koop Fried Chicken, a new restaurant within a chain of convenience stores, need a great new logo to stand out in their marketplace and turned to the designers at 99designs and wins the best new restaurant logo for June 2018.
Buddy needed a new logo and brand identity to launch his new restaurant chain and got 122 logo design ideas from 39 designers.
The winning logo incorporated the chicken in a powerful and bold way into a badge-type emblem logo, along with a flame and knife and fork crossed.
It is certainly distinctive and memorable and also literal -ie the chicken 🙂
This design won the contest as the best because of its innovative use of badge shape, along with interesting font choices that highlight the fun name, Koop (as in chicken coop – the traditional farm housing for poultry), and use of only two colors.
